Well yes, of course. I have various art styles depending on why I choose it for certain arts.
1. Solid outline + solid shading/lighting
This is my most used art style of all, if not including rough pencil-lined arts use for concepts and within few rules of categorizing so. This SEAL Team 6 art is drawn using rough pencil first for sketch concepts before lining it with fine tip digital pen and coloring it beneath.
2. Lineless + solid shading/lighting
Basically you don’t need any lining procedure and straight up make the shape from thick brush and erasing excesses. Making the solid shades/lightings is harder in this one because you have to know how not to look like it overlaps its solid color under it.
3. Lineless + smooth shading/lighting
This is basically number 2, but replace solid shades/lightings with smooth ones made with airbrush and different blending feature like this Lumi art.
4. Lineless + no shading/lighting
I rarely use this art style due to its hard way to find it fitting in any possibilities. JS&B may be the only exception where this art style fits really well. I forget to say that it’s not just JS&B, it’s “Just Teams & Fortresses.” XD
5. Clean grainy outline + solid? shading/lighting
Probably the first time I try doing this art style. Might as well implement it on another art, but I don’t know when since 70% of my arts are solid outline arts…
6. Rough grainy outline + grainy shading/outline
This art style is just my excuse to draw in less quality. Just kidding, this art style is to mostly show concept arts of mine like these Geometry Dash OCs and that CS:GO arts of dudes getting super powers, I believe.
7. Grainy lineless + no shading/lighting
No further comments about this one, just using crayons to shape and erase excesses using crayon, too. Make sure it’s grainy for absolute coolness.
I hope this inspires your way to do your art styles!
People do improve, of course, right? That applies to my arts as well. I started drawing back in 2016 and still improving to this day (if not counting rough, scrapped sketches). So, where do I start? Well, good question, because these arts are the ones I picked from Instagram from 2016-2020. So let’s just dive into the evolution.
This is the very first known recorded art of mine on Insta. It’s about these (terribly drawn) cute robots called “Animal Mechanicals,” a show about animal robots going on a mission to solve problems on each islands directed by Island Owl. I even have the mechana version of these robots, but I don’t feel like sharing it here.
Here’s the next art of this evolution with these overlapping, janky, column-based art of random animals. As far as my memory serves well, these were based on my Minecraft skins (yes, I used to play Minecraft and made some neon skins like these for own enjoyment) and told people on Insta to guess all animals featured in this art. Oh boy was it really shaming to myself.
2018 is where I got into Jurassic Saga (and Marvel movies somehow) and I just watched Fallen Kingdom that time (no, not the Minecraft parody). the inspiration to draw this came from that scene in Fallen Kingdom where all dinosaurs are being shipped, except this poor big fella.
Guess what? I do traditional arts, too, but not as frequent these days. 2018 was the year I also played a lot of Dragon City and even proposed a dragon design that didn’t end up being a game. At least they have noticed mine and they liked it.
Back to digital art, I did another Dragon City art again (yay). This time it’s about singular element dragons used mainly for breeding purposes.
Going back to traditional art again, I still had that Jurassic Saga obsession and following by Detroit. The dinosaurs’ freedom on said movie made me draw this.
Back to digital art yet again, this is Indoraptor named Dormamu, a combination between Indoraptor and Dormammu. From the name itself, you can clearly tell it’s my username origin (DormamuRaptor). I was a proud person to call this a commission without knowing the real definition of it. XD
Avengers: Endgame was a booming thing back in April 2019 and I contributed to that hype by making this art with TF2 characters and posted it on Insta, reaching 158 likes. This was my magnum opus of Instagram art to be proud of, not gonna lie.
Jumping forward 6 months later, it was our 7th grade teacher’s birthday. My friends and I made this poster for her and she of course liked it! If you see it, that month was also the month I got into GD (from a bunch of GD-related drawings seen).
2 months later, I’m getting into DJVI music and made two fanarts for him (even more in the coming future. I’m being honest here), left is for a New Year Anniversary and the right is just his logo and a bunch of weird shapes.
I haven’t drawn anything significant until March 2020 with my pixel art experiments.
As you can see, I was really a beginner in making pixel arts, especially with Waterflame art.
That day was the start of the pandemic and I have spent more time on drawing and improving further. I often grab my phone, boot up Autodesk SketchBook and draw lines + add colors more usual than before. This is where I truly hook up myself into arts.
I joined DJVI server back in January 2020 and has since become a loyal member of his. As for his birthday surprise, I drew this simple art for him and somehow reached over 100 likes on Instagram, compared to my 2021 art of the same concept with 42-ish likes only (what a sad time).
Consider these arts as my attempts in drawing a human portrait, and these are the reasons I’m into drawing humans these days. Thank you, Alan Rogers and Tria. Very cool.
Around November 2020, I experimented on lineless arts and more vibrant colors. These are the results as both are for my Discord friends’ birthdays. I love y’all ❤
December 10th, 2020 was also the time I tried lineless art for my friend, but this time he requested it and not some form of birthday gift for him.
Art: “NGC90,” December 10th, 2020
To be honest, there are so many arts in 2021 that I’m kind of tired to show it all to you. You should see improvements in my arts so far. And if you do, I’ll be all glad!
Thanks for looking at my old arts and (maybe) stay tuned for another blog!
Looking from this image, it can be assumed that I have my own way to do my arts(it was done on a laptop with a mouse, hence the wiggly lines). And yes, it’s true that I have my own ways to draw.
To start off, I drew the rough sketches first on how he will do the pose. For this, I went for shrugging fanfic Creo.
Then I did the details and drew the intended outlines. The detailed rough sketches should be barely visible for better outlining part.
After that, I put on solid colors(went out of the line, but I erased them. The image is visible from the very top)and one blurry cyan-ish color on his head for the geode-y effect.
For lighting, I have 2 techniques: multiply/screen and hue shift. In this case, I’m using the multiply/screen technique. I applied darker colors for multiplied layer and vice versa for screened/lighter lighting.
And finally, I added a final touch by adding backgrounds(terribly for demonstration), glows, removing rough sketch underneath, and added my signature next to the character.
That concludes the blog about how I usually draw and the technique to do so. I hope you enjoyed it! ❤
